BLANK CANVAS: JANNA WATSON

We recently visited Toronto-based conceptual painter Janna Watson on a bitter cold, snowy morning at her newly constructed Grey County studio. It was a pleasure to capture a moment in her practice leading up to her upcoming show at Bau-Xi Gallery in Vancouver.

The previous night’s snowfall blanketed the property leading up toJanna’s new studio building designed by Michael Curtis of Verge Studios. Inside the weathered steel and glass studioJannahas been working comfortably in some of her House of Blanks gear for the past couple of months. The studio is designed to patina and age alongside the densely wooded forest, over time the materials will recede into it’s surroundings. With the idea of patina and aging in mind this felt like the perfect space to capture our wares in the process of an artist’s life. Covered in colours and broken in with her work days,Janna’s sweatsuit and t-shirts beautifully reflected her practice over the past several months. The fruit’s ofJanna’s labour is a demonstration that our gear is built to be loved and lived in.

We pride ourselves on manufacturing clothing to accommodate everyone’s work process through many conditions. Our Relaxed Fit styles are designed with added room for movement and practicality for a day of hard work. Janna has been comfortably working in the 1012 Relaxed Fit T-shirt and 7004 Classic Sweatpants with the added layering option of our 3013 Relaxed Fit Pullover Hoodie during cold days like this one in her studio.
